SUNDAY DESSERT #23: Flan
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Spain 🇪🇸
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy
INSPIRATION: Jared loves desserts that are moist and creamy. Since flan is just that, I made it to honor his tastebuds for Father's day. 😘
RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: Flan looks fabulous, is incredibly easy to make, and it only uses four common ingredients; sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla. (Side note: Flan traditionally uses milk instead of cream. So if you want a really creamy outcome, I highly suggest using full-fat milk and adding two extra egg yolks more than the recipe calls for into the custard. You won't be disappointed. Trust me on this one.)
I've only ever had flan from restaurants, but homemade is much more fun and just as good! The most satisfying part is flipping the ramekin over onto a plate and watching the flan slide out as the caramel sauce oozes over the custard. Pure. Simple. Delicious. 8/10. Jared and I both agree, however, that it's French cousin, crème brûlée, is exceptionally better. Sorry Spain. 😆
WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? ¡SÃ! This is a great dessert for beginners that I'd love to teach our kids to make.
