Pavê

Updated: Mar 11, 2023

SUNDAY DESSERT #29: Pavê

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Brazil 🇧🇷

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy

INSPIRATION: I feel like the majority of my desserts have been very European lately. So I needed to cross the ocean and make something Latin American again to balance things out. Plus, I've been told that pavê is essential to try by some Brazilian friends!

RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: This is the best dessert lasagna I have ever had in my life. Period. Make this with caution because it is incredibly difficult to stop eating after one slice!

Layers of sweetened condensed milk and dulce de leche pudding cream sandwiched between Marias cookies (which kind of taste like thin animal crackers) make up this confectionary joy. Add some homemade whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top and you're in business! Well, almost. The "hardest" part of this recipe is letting it refrigerate overnight so that the cookies soften, the flavors mesh, and the layers stiffen. Gah!!! Really?! As tempting as it is to eat it right away (and I may or may not have had a slice beforehand 🤫), trust me when I say it's WAY better the next day...and easier to cut. 😅 It tastes like a caramel version of better-than-sex-cake. Perfectly delicious and a very deserving 10/10!

Also, besides being extremely easy to make, this dessert is exceptionally versatile. You can add fruit, vanilla cream, chocolate cream, chocolate cookies, biscoff cookies, nuts...the list is endless! It's a create-your-own, mix-and-match treat. Booyah!

Side note: The recipe I used called for 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk. I substituted one of those for a can of dulce de leche instead. Oh man...try it!

WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? Absolutely, hands down YES!!!
