SUNDAY DESSERT #4: Basbousa
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Egypt/Middle East 🇪🇬
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy
INSPIRATION: Just wanted to try something from the Northern Africa regions and found this dessert. It is very popular in Egypt but can also be found throughout the more western parts of the Middle East.
RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: This is an easy cake to make! Perfect for beginner bakers. It has a very thick batter (almost more like a dough) made out of semolina flour, yogurt, shredded coconut, butter, and simple syrup with candied almonds on top. It has a similar texture and taste to cornbread only much more sweet and moist. Not the most amazing dessert ever, but definitely not bad. I'd give it a 6/10.
WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? Probably not. It was good, but I'd rather make something I absolutely love if I'm going to eat dessert.
