Biscotti

SUNDAY DESSERT #95: Biscotti

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Italy 🇮🇹

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy

INSPIRATION: When it's hot cocoa season, you simply must have biscotti for dunking!

RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: Biscotti are surprisingly easy to make! The biscotti dough base is very similar to a sugar cookie dough. It tastes like it, too! The dough is shaped into a giant, flattened cookie log and baked until golden. Then when it is completely cooled, you slice the log into the traditional biscotti shape and bake them again until each side is toasted. This is where the name came from because biscotti in Italian means "twice baked".

I made my biscotti with sliced almonds, dried cranberries, and a combo of vanilla and almond extracts. Mmmm! But you can add any combination of mix-ins and flavorings that you would like! For the dessert world, it's an 7/10. But if you're comparing it to specifically the biscotti world, it's a 10/10! And like any biscotti, it's crunchy and simple but a perfect sweet treat for a cold day with your favorite hot drink! ❄️ ☕️ ⛄️

WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? So...not to brag, but these are way better than Starbucks! I might be making a batch every week or so to keep our cookie jar filled for our hot chocolate needs. And white chocolate added with the almonds and cranberry would be fantastic!
