SUNDAY DESSERT #7: Bollur
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Iceland 🇮🇸
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate
INSPIRATION: Today is Bolladagur (cream bun day) in Iceland! It's a holiday before Lent where kids spank their parents with a wand yelling bolla! bolla! bolla! and then you pig out on cream buns (bollur). No joke! I may be moving to Iceland if these are the kinds of holidays they have. 😅
RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: Each Scandanavian country has their own name and take on these cream buns, but I like Iceland's version best. It's a pâte à choux dough (like the éclairs but SO much easier to bake perfectly since it's in a bun shape instead of a log) and you can fill it with anything you want! Traditionally, it's filled with jam and regular whipped cream. I chose to fill mine with apple cinnamon compote and salted caramel whipped cream. 😋 I'd give these puppies a 9/10.
WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? Yup! And we are now officially celebrating Bolladagur every year!
