SUNDAY DESSERT #50: Bûche de Noël (Yule Log)
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: France 🇫🇷
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate
INSPIRATION: The Scandinavian tradition of burning the Yule log at Christmastime was transformed into a beautiful dessert by the French. I obviously needed to partake in this tradition.
RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: Chocolate sponge cake. Whipped cream filling. Ganache frosting. Charming log design and decoration. How classy and delicious! Would you expect anything less from a French dessert?! I had a hard time cutting up slices because I just wanted to look at it all day! I've seen other Yule cakes ornately decorated with a variety of things like meringue mushrooms, holly, chocolate shavings, and lit candles. As beautiful as those are, I love the simplicity of a little sugared rosemary and a few cranberries to add a slight Christmas touch. And the "bark" is so easy to make! You just run the tines of a fork through the ganache and it magically turns a cake into a log. So cool! It tastes wonderful, too. A solid 10/10 in my opinion!
WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? Oh yes! I would and will for many a Christmas to come! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
