Turkish Delight (Lokum)

SUNDAY DESSERT #44: Turkish Delight (Lokum)

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Turkey 🇹🇷

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy

INSPIRATION: Whenever I watch Edmund eat the Turkish Delight in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe movie, I always wish I could reach into the screen and snag a piece! It looks so good! Well, no more wishing. I'm going to make it! By the way, the book and movie series are incredible. I love and recommend them! And anything by C.S. Lewis, for that matter.

RECEPTION/COMMENTARY: This candy is like a cubed, soft gum drop covered in powdered sugar. Traditionally, Turkish Delight is made with orange, lemon, or rosewater flavors; the latter being the most popular in the middle east. I've had all three before and I didn't care for them. The rosewater flavor must be an acquired taste because, when I had it, I felt like I was eating potpourri. Let's just politely say it was not the best experience for me. But today, I'm the chef! And this chef has chosen to flavor her candy creation with raspberry and almond extracts. Mmmmmm!

I'm going to pretend that my choice of flavor combination is what Edmund was eating because it was so good! Not exactly worth betraying my family for, but at least an 8/10. My husband gave it a 9! Plus, it was surprisingly easy to make. And don't you just love my snowflake platter? I feel like the White Witch would approve.

WOULD I MAKE IT AGAIN? Oh, yes. This was a hit! I'd like to try out other flavor combinations, too.
